General Motors shatters sales record in China

The success story that is General Motors in China, wrote a new chapter in October when the company, along with its joint ventures, set a new sales record.

During the month it sold 220,412 units – that’s up 10.4 per cent on an annual basis. Domestic demand for vehicles from Shanghai GM increased 4.3 per cent to 103,309; while domestic sales of SAIC-GM-Wuling leapt to 111,957 – an increase of 19.2 per cent.

Incredibly, GM has now sold more than two million vehicles inChinathis year – a total of 2,113,274 units. This total is made up from 1,009,536 units sold by Shanghai GM and 1,052,196 units from SAIC-GM-Wuling.

In terms of its individual brands, Buick enjoyed a successful month with sales increasing 3.1 per cent to an October record of 56,200 units. It was led by sales of the Excelle passenger car, which increased by 13 per cent. Meanwhile, Chevrolet had its second best October ever with sales reaching 50,450 units – led by the Cruze, which saw its sales leap by 11.2 per cent year on year. Finally, Cadillac also set an October sales bench mark with an increase of 21.5 per cent on an annual basis to 2,085 units.
