Honda starts electric car testing

Japanese carmaker Honda has started demonstration testing of its Honda Fit EV (electric vehicle concepts) in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.

Tests are being conducted in association with the city’s government and Guangzhou Automobile and see the electric cars driven in a real-world urban transportation environment to verify their convenience and identify any technological issues.

Based on the information gathered from the testing, Honda will make recommendations regarding recharging infrastructure.

The Honda Fit EV includes a coaxial motor, which is also used in the Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle, and has a maximum output of 92kW and maximum torque of 256Nm. It’s charging time is less than six hours and it has a range of more than 93miles.

Honda aims to begin local production of the electric vehicles before the end of 2012.
