The Los Angeles Auto Show was the setting for Honda to unveil the 2013 Fit EV (electric vehicle), while also announcing plans to lease the vehicle from next summer.
The Honda Fit EV will initially be made available to lease customers in the California and Oregon markets before expanding to the East Coast in 2013. It will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $36,625 and will lease for around $399 a month. Honda’s goal is to produce 1,100 of the vehicles over the next three years.
Designed to meet the needs of the average urban commuter, the electric car has a driving range of 123miles on a single charge with Honda anticipating an EV range of 76miles on new fuel economy labels. It will be powered by a 20kWh lithium-ion battery with a maximum output of 100kW, as well as a 92kW coaxial electric motor.
In addition, the Honda Fit EV comes with a three-mode electric drive system that allows the driver to select between economy, normal and sport modes to change their driving experience – and either maximise efficiency or boost acceleration.
Other features include interactive coaching that is designed to assist the driver in maximising battery performance and driving range; and an on-board 32amp charger for convenient recharging.
