Chevrolet Volt heads to China

It is one of the most sought-after green cars in the world – and now the Chevrolet Volt range extended electric car (known in Europe as the Vauxhall/Opel Ampera) is heading to China.

The Volt will go on sale at 13 Shanghai GM Chevrolet dealerships across eight Chinese cities. These are: Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Foshan, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. It will be priced at RMB498,000 – the equivalent of around US$78,000.

When the Chevrolet Volt is introduced in the country, China will be one of its first global markets. It is part of Shanghai GM’s Drive to Green strategy, which focuses on delivering products with higher fuel economy and lower emissions.

The announcement was made as part of GM’s participation in Auto Guangzhou 2011. It was also announced that Chevrolet Volt buyers inChinawill be eligible to join the V+ Club, meaning they can receive a one-on-one service by calling a bilingual 24hr hotline.
