Smart electric concept heading to Detroit

Are you ready for the North American International Auto Show? There may be more than a month to go until the showcase event, but mouths are already watering among green car fans after Daimler became the latest to announce it will use the Detroit Motor Show to debut an exciting new concept.

The Smart For-Us Urban Pickup electric concept vehicle is based on the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive and is said to translate the practical loading concept of a pickup to urban traffic.

Boasting room for two people and space for two smart e-bikes behind them, the vehicle comes with a docking station in the cargo area to ensure its batteries are always charged. It includes a 55kW electric motor that delivers 130Nm of torque and the lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 17.6kWh.

In addition, the Smart For-Us has a longer wheelbase compared to the Smart Fortwo at 2480mm plus 613mm and a track that has been widened by 50mm on each side.

I´m very much looking forward to the North American International Auto Show, especially because of the new electric vehicles! I really appreciate eco-friendly cars. Yesterday I found an interesting website concerning electromobility: http://www.usa.siemens.com/electromobility/electromobility.html
