It seems the Spanish just can’t take to electric cars – but hybrid cars are finally catching on.
According to a report by El Mundo, sales of electric cars in Spain are low – with just 314 units sold during the first 11 months of the year. That represents a weak 0.04 per cent of the total 741,600 units sold during the same period. During November, sales stood at 45 units – that’s 0.07 per cent of the market.
Among the suggestions in the report is that it is mainly fleet and public entities that are buying electric vehicles. Currently, Madrid has the most electric vehicles registered at 149 units – followed by Catatonia at 56.
Elsewhere, sales of hybrid cars increased by 21.7 per cent over the 11 months to 9,427 units. That represents 1.27 per cent of car registrations – while in November sales rose 7.5 per cent to 830 units, making up 1.37 per cent of the market.
