Australians introduce electric super car

One of Australia’s oldest specialty vehicle manufacturers has shown it has one eye on the future, by introducing a high performance electric super car.

Varley Electric Vehicles, a division of the Varley Group, has launched the evR-450, to mark its 125 year anniversary.

The electric supercar is the first vehicle showcasing its electric drive technology that is both engineered and manufactured in Australia. It is a hand-built sports car that was developed on a race proven aluminium monocoque chassis and comes with an all-electric AC driveline and lithium-ion battery pack and power electronics.

Among the vehicle’s features are twin carbon ironless core AC motors that use dynamic overspeed for flexibility and performance. It can accelerate from 0-100km in 3.8seconds; and has a top speed of 112mph.

Ahead of its launch however, Varley will introduce a sport variant, known as the evS-450 in January 2012 which has a top speed of 99mph and can travel from 0-100km in 4.6seconds.
