Japan has extended its tax breaks for ‘green cars’ until 2015, in a effort to support its struggling domestic car industry.
Fuel-efficient and low emission cars, including many hybrid and electric cars will now benefit from the continuation of customer incentives now extended for another three years, having previously been scheduled to end next April.
Japan’s car makers were badly affected by the country’s earthquake and tsunami earlier this year and are continuing to affected by the strength of the yen.
Car makers such as Nissan and Toyota are likely to be greatly bolstered by the tax breaks, with sales of low emission models, both at home and abroad, growing in demand.
Under the government programme, low emission cars are tax-free, granting buyers a significant discounts.
