Remember the troubles of 2007 and the credit crunch? With 2012 now here, nearly half a decade has passed – and Ford is celebrating the New Year in style.
For the first time since that fateful year, the Ford brand has topped two million vehicle sales in a single year. The milestone makes it the best selling brand in the USA and the first to hit the two million barrier since 2007.
At the end of November, Ford reported sales of 1,861,178 units sold – 33.4 per cent of which were cars; 28 per cent utilities; and 38.6 per cent were trucks. Its car sales have grown 16 per cent compared to the same period in 2010; with utility sales up 32.1 per cent; and truck sales up 10.3 per cent.
Despite the success however, Ford hasn’t enjoyed great hybrid car sales. In fact for the first 11 months of 2011, sales of the Ford Escape Hybrid were down 12.6 per cent; while sales of the Ford Fusion Hybrid dropped by 46.2 per cent.
Nevertheless, the Ford Fusion is one of the key reasons why Ford has enjoyed such a remarkable comeback. It has expanded its market share by 5.2 percentage points since sales began in 2006 and in 2010 Fusion sales rose by 219,219 for an 11.9 per cent share.
An all-new Ford Fusion will debut at the North American International Auto Show in January.
