It has been a testing time for electric super car maker Fisker Automotive – but it now believes that its troubles, following a recall of its hallmark Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid vehicle, are nearly behind it.
The company has announced that a majority of all customer cars and dealer-held vehicles affected by the recall, which involved A123Systems battery packs, are now back in service. In some cases this means brand new battery packs have been fitted, while in others a repair has been carried out to the hose clamp. Meanwhile, the remaining customers affected have been contacted and appointments arranged for replacement battery installation.
Fisker has addressed the problem within two weeks – something that CEO of Fisker Automotive, Henrik Fisker, is keen to highlight.
He commented that the company decided an immediate replacement of the battery pack in every vehicle was necessary. Fisker identified the appropriate fix and made retailers aware of the situation before contacting all customers within 48hrs.
The move came after A123Systems determined that some of its battery packs had a potential safety issue relating to their cooling system with hose clamps misaligned.
