SEAT’s new Ibiza model will have emissions as low as 89g/km CO2 when it launches in the UK this spring.
That will make the Spanish brand’s car one of the lowest emission cars in its class. Set to be released in three body styles, three door hatch, five door and an estate version, new E Ecomotive models will continue to denote the lowest emission variants across the range.
The Ibiza remains one of the best-selling cars in its segment across Europe. Since the fourth generation was launched in 2008, more than 500,000 have opted for one. SEAT puts the model’s success down to its youthful image, sporty styling and breadth of choice, with Ibiza models available in everything from the performance-focused FR guise to the economy-minded E Ecomotives.
Now in its latest generation, the new Ibiza benefits from a refresh in styling and an improved equipment list. A new SEAT Portable Media System plus sat nav system and hands-free device ensure the model is well-equipped. Externally, the ca features flatter proportions and horizontal honeycomb structure to the grille and the lower air intake. The bumpers front and rear have been redesigned, with a look that is particularly accentuated on the sporty Ibiza FR version.
The new Ibiza also benefits from the latest-generation TDI and TSI power units,DSG transmissions and the start/stop system to provide strong driving dynamics with exceptional efficiency. The range of petrol units extends from the economical 1.2-litre 60 PS to the 1.4 TSI with supercharger and turbocharger. Particularly efficient is the new Ibiza 1.2 TSI Ecomotive, which delivers 105 PS and maximum torque of 175 Nm at just 1,550 rpm, yet sips an average of just 5.1 litres/100 km – thanks also to start/stop technology that is fitted as standard.
Even more efficient are the diesel engines. The new Ibiza’s TDI engines at their most efficient in the Ibiza 1.2 TDI E Ecomotive with fuel consumption around 83mpg (combined), equating to a first-class CO2 figure of 89 g/km – in all bodyshell variants. Yet the compact TDI delivers strong performance with its 75 PS and very respectable peak torque of 180 Nm. The sporty pinnacle of the Ibiza diesel line-up is the 2.0 TDI with a 143 PS with a top speed of 130 mph and average fuel consumption of just 61mpg.
CO2 emissions, fuel economy, performance are preliminary data at the moment and relate to left-hand drive models. Full details of UK trim levels, prices and technical specifications are expected to be announced soon, as the Ibiza launches in the UK this spring.
