California has certainly led the way among US states in embracing environmental technology – and now solar power is part of the state’s forward thinking strategies.
The Centre for Environmental Research and Technology at the University of California has picked up an award of $2million for a two-year project aimed at building solar arrays, vehicle charging stations, advanced battery storage, an electric trolley and a grid management system to help provide clean energy to clean vehicles.
Supported by the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the project involves several public and private partners and will allow the university to install up to 2MW of solar arrays and 2MW of lithium battery storage systems near the UC Riverside campus.
In a separate project, AECOM Technology Corporation and REC Solar have unveiled a 1.16MW installation at the California State University, Fullerton campus. It features three solar systems installed on the rooftops of two CSU Fullerton buildings with a parking structure. It also includes solar powered electric vehicle charging stations to boost the university’s sustainability.
