Some truly remarkable emission statistics have been achieved by several carmakers – but surely the new Peugeot 208 super-mini, which launches in spring, is among the absolute best.
That’s because the vehicle, which is available in three-door and five-door body styles with a host of different petrol and diesel engines can achieve CO2 emissions as low as 87g/km.
The version of the Peugeot 208 that manages these eye catching statistics is the e-HDI diesel engine with stop and start technology. There are five models in the diesel range in total, with nearly all equipped with the stop and start technology. Fuel economy starts from 69mpg while emissions do not exceed 99g/km.
Also available is a host of three-cylinder petrol engines starting at 99g/km with fuel economy at 54.7mpg.
The three-cylinder engine is considered the latest stage in Peugeot’s downsizing strategy with 1.0litre and 1.2litre VTi versions achieving emission levels of 99g/km and 104g/km respectively. They have maximum power of 50 and 60kW at 6,000rpm; with maximum torque of 85 and 118Nm at 3,000rpm and 2,750rpm respectively.
