Tata Motors steps up fuel cell bus plans

Though well-known for its automobiles, India’s Tata Motors is also one of the world’s largest bus manufacturers – and now it has stepped up its efforts to introduce a fuel cell bus in its home country.

It has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ballard Power Systems to use 12FCVelocity 1100 fuel cell stacks to power its zero emission buses in a number of Indian cities.

Tata first introduced a fuel cell bus at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi earlier this month. Now Ballard will deliver the fuel cell stacks to Tata in 2012 and 2013 – in-line with the company’s plans to introduce the model there.
