Suzuki to reveal new 70g/km CO2 lightweight car

With February now upon us, the 82nd Geneva Motor is just a month away and the car makers are already revealing details of some of its forthcoming highlights.

One such car maker is , with plans to reveal a new concept called the G70; a lightweight small petrol car expected to emit as little as 70g/km CO2. Its low emission level is achieved through a focus on lightweight construction and achieving an aerodynamic profile. Weighing just 730kg, the G70 has a drag coefficient at least 10 per cent lower than that of a current A segment car, for example, the Alto.

Also on the Suzuki stand will be the Swift Range Extender which was first revealed at the 2010 . Since its first unveiling, Suzuki has been tinkering with the car’s hybrid technology and has successfully doubled the car’s all-electric range to 30km.

The Swift Range Extender uses a generator and an efficient 660cc three cylinder petrol engine to power it. Compared with a fully battery electric car. the Suzuki’s range-extender system promises a more compact lithium-ion battery that’s quicker to charge, weighs less, uses fewer resources and also costs less.

Both cars will be revealed on March 6, 2012, on the opening day of the Geneva Motor Show.
