Make a note of the name: Prestolite E-Propulsion Systems Beijing Limited – as it may play a significant role in the development of electric vehicles in the years to come.
The company has been formed through an agreement between TM4 and Prestolite Electric Beijing Limited (PEBL) and will develop, manufacture, sell and support electric traction systems for both buses and trucks – as well as for off-road vehicles and marine vehicles for commercial purposes.
TM4 is well known for offering a host of electric power control systems, including: electric powertrains for electric and hybrid vehicles; ISAM and starter units for heavy duty buses and trucks; the MoGEN hybrid powertrain; and the wheel motor.
PEBL meanwhile, is already a massive name in the industry. According to a survey by the Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, China boasts 40 per cent of the world’s production of heavy duty buses – with PEBL products contained in 85 per cent of medium and large buses and 38 per cent of heavy duty trucks produced in China.
Now the joint venture will target clients across Taiwan, Macao, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Republic of China. It hopes to start accepting orders with delivery dates in 2013.
