Japanese carmaker Mazda is planning to take safety to a new level with its new crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-5.
The vehicle, which will launch in the spring, features a technology called Smart City Brake Support. This helps drivers to avoid frontal collisions when driving at low speeds.
It works by activating a laser sensor that detects when a vehicle or obstacle is in front and it reduces the extent of the brake rotor travel to enhance braking operation. Should the driver fail to perform any operation, it automatically activates the brakes and reduces engine output – thus helping to avoid collisions and minimise damage. In addition, the Smart City Brake Support system features acceleration control for automatic transmission to help avoid unintentional acceleration. It alerts the driver with an alarm sound and an indicator, while engine output is curbed.
The ultimate goal for Mazda is to create an accident-free and safe motorised society.
