Chery Automobile furthers electric car plans

Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile has stepped up its efforts to introduce electric cars by signing up a high power battery supplier.

China BAK Battery Inc has been signed up to supply the batteries for the Chery Automobile Ruilin M1 electric car. Under the terms of the agreement, it will supply 100 units of lithium-ion high power batteries which will be used to power the vehicle on its launch in the first half of this year.

The Chery Ruilin M1 made its debut back at the 25th World Electric Vehicle Symposium in November, 2010, and is the company’s first lithium-ion electric vehicle.

According to China BAK, further orders for electric vehicle batteries are expected from Chery during the second half of 2012.
