EcoVelocity will share floorspace with Grand Designs Live when it opens at the ExCeL London in May.
The decision to stage the two events alongside each other comes after Media 10 – who stage the Grand Designs live show – bought a majority stake in organisers IGME.
The idea of mixing the pair may be unexpected for some but Giles Brown, organiser of EcoVelocity and MD of IGME, said the partnership was an ideal development that would benefit both parties.
He explained: “Media 10 have an enviable reputation for developing outstanding events and by running alongside Grand Designs Live, EcoVelocity immediately becomes part of a greater success story.
“What started as a joint promotion discussion quickly became a realisation that we could develop something to be much greater than the sum of individual parts.
“This helps resolve the age-old conundrum of how to attract affluent motorists to attend a motorshow as well as the holy grail of car show organisers – attracting female car buyers to visit the show.”
The development marks the latest major change for the green motoring event. Just last month, it was announced that EcoVelocity would be relocated into the capital from Battersea Power Station as well as brought forward a few months from September to get in before the London Olympics.
It has been confirmed that visitors will be granted admittance to both shows with the one ticket but it has been stressed that EcoVelocity will remain a standalone event with its own marketing campaign.
Organisers are also confident that the event will attract a much higher audience than EcoVelocity’s inaugural show in September last year by taking advantage of the Grand Design Live’s record-breaking 100,000+ visitor figures in 2011.
Details were still pending on how dates would be rescheduled at time of writing.
Lee Newton, MD of Media Ten Ltd, concluded: “We are delighted to add EcoVelocity to our growing stable of events, it is the perfect fit with Grand Designs Live and the audience profiles are very closely matched.
“We recognise that homes and cars are two of the most important and high value purchases in most people’s lives and by bringing the two shows together under one roof provides eco-conscious visitors with the best of both worlds and great value for their ticket price.”
