London welcomes 300th hybrid bus

The capital city has hit another landmark in its push towards green transport: by introducing its 300th hybrid bus (pictured).

Now in service on route 211 between Hammersmith and Waterloo, the 300th hybrid bus is just part of 1,000 that are set to be introduced during the next four years. It is believed that a further 104 have already been ordered by the Department for Transport at £5million. London Hybrid Bus

The fee is quite a bargain too – initially this was the amount set to finance 70 hybrid buses. However, Transport for London has negotiated a reduced price alongside an increase in the order as confidence in the technology continues to grow.

Furthermore, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson has also committed to taking delivery of 600 of the new bus for London vehicles – seven of these are already in service on route 38.

The 1,000 hybrid bus marker is set to be reached by 2016 with hybrid technology first having been trialled by Transport for London back in 2006: they offer fuel savings of 30 per cent.

In Dalston, we have lots of hybrid buses including the New Bus for London on route 38 and the all hybrid route 76. The only problem, is that sometimes when the bus stops, the engine cuts out. so passengers go and ask the driver if the bus has broken down.
