It will be the largest ever Ford to be fitted with such a small displacement engine – but the next generation Ford Mondeo (pictured) is set to include the award winning 1.0litre EcoBoost petrol engine.
Described as a “game changer”, the new Mondeo will deliver best-in-class fuel economy and boast CO2 emissions of less than 130g/km with the EcoBoost engine. It will be a part of Ford’s aggressive new rollout strategy with Barb Samardzich, the vice president of product development for Ford Europe, commenting that it is necessary to offer customers more for less.
“This is as true of engines as it is of computers and smartphones, and by equipping the all-new Mondeo in Europe with our acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine we are delivering cutting-edge technology that delivers a very real and tangible customer benefit,” she said.
The EcoBoost engine was named as the 2012 International Engine of the Year, and is the most power dense engine the company has ever produced. It is capable of producing 125PS and 170Nm of torque, from just 1,450rpm.
In addition, it includes a host of advanced technologies such as: low-inertia turbo; direct fuel injection; an aluminium cylinder head; variable camshaft timing; and low friction piston coatings.
