Details revealed for greenest ever Skoda Octavia

Skoda has come clean on its most eco Octavia yet.

The third generation Octavia will be available with four petrol and four diesel engines when it hits UK shores in March 2013.

Every engine – except the entry level 1.2-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesels - will come with Start/Stop and brake energy recuperation.

Fuel economy and CO2 emissions have been improved by nearly a quarter over the previous Octavia (23%) with carbon output across all eight engines working out at 112.6g/km on average.

However it’s the 1.6-litre diesel GreenLine which is the greenest option with a CO2 output of 89g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 83mpg.

For petrol fans keen to keep emissions and fuel top-ups to a minimum should look to the 1.2-litre GreenTec with CO2 emissions of 114g/km and a 57.6mpg combined fuel economy. The weight of the petrol engines themselves has been reduced by up to 22kg.

A pricelist is set to follow in the New Year but the Octavia’s starting price is expected to be bumped up from £13,385 to at least £14k due to the upgraded spec included as standard.

About John Simpson

John has been writing about cars since the start of 2011, with a particular fondness for models with USB connectivity and a serious distaste for steering wheels with too many buttons. Can often be found trying to seduce 1.0-litre engines. When away from things that go brum, apostrophe snob John can often be found making noise with varying degrees of musicality.
