EPA grants waiver for Advanced Clear Car regulations

A waiver has been granted by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the California Air Resources Board on its Advanced Clean Car regulations.US EPA logo

Thanks to the revision, changes have been made to both the Low Emission Vehicle program and the Zero Emission Vehicle program.

The regulations refer to climate change and air quality and are designed to encourage the sales of advanced technologies and support investment in technology and infrastructure.

Amendments made to the Low Emission Vehicle program mean that there will be more stringent criteria and emission standards for 2015, 2016 and 2017 model year vehicles. They are meant to help commercialise sales of plug-in hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell technologies in the hope that they will reach 15 per cent of new vehicle sales by 2025.

In addition, the EPA has determined that California Air Resources Board ZEV amendments are within the scope of previous EPA waivers.
