Toyota brings hybrid car message to Surrey

The county of Surrey in south-east England is currently making the most of Climate Week: and Toyota has been quick to get in on the act.

The Japanese carmaker decided the event would be the perfect showcase for its hybrid power message and provided two of its low emission vehicles for a ride and drive showcase.Toyota Surrey Climate Week

Staff at the county hall in Kingston took to the wheel of a Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid and a Toyota Yaris Hybrid to learn more about how the carmaker is developing cars that will use less fuel and reduce emissions.

Certainly the vehicles in question are excellent examples of what fuel saving technology can do. The Toyota Yaris Hybrid is a super-mini with CO2 emissions as low as 79g/km and official fuel economy figures at a staggering 80.7mpg: meaning it is cheap to run not only in terms of fuel costs, but also with its tax bills.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid makes the most of a compact, lithium-ion battery and can be driven much further on electric power alone: all while using no fuel to produce exhaust emissions. However, whereas a standard electric car would need recharging when its energy runs out; the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid simply makes use of a 1.8litre petrol engine so that motorists never have to worry about not getting to their destination without a recharge.

Climate Week will run throughout the UK until March 10 with around half a million people expected to take part in events.
