Chevrolet reveals 119mpge fuel economy rating for Spark

Chevrolet may just have "sparked" interest in its latest electric vehicle: by revealing a combined fuel economy rating of 119mpge.

The 2014 edition of the Chevrolet Spark EV (pictured) will have an estimated range of 82miles when fully charged: and with the 119mpge fuel economy figure will officially be one of the most fuel efficient electric vehicles on the market. It falls only marginally behind the Scion iQ EV with 121mpge; and ahead of the Honda Fit EV with 118mpge; the Fiat 500e with 116mpge; and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV at 112mpge.

In addition, the Chevrolet Spark EV is set to be the first vehicle on the market to offer the SAE combo charger for DC fast charging: this will enable it to recharge to 80 per cent of its capacity in a meagre 20minutes. The battery system consists of a 21kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a limited warranty of 100,000miles - and it is able to handle multiple DC fast charges every day.

Charging meanwhile, can be managed and monitored daily using a smart phone application.
