News in brief: Ford reveals electric car charging supplier

Ford has made a serious investment in electric vehicles in recent years: with the likes of the Ford Focus Electric, Ford C-MAX Energi and the Ford Fusion plug-in electric vehicle (pictured) all on the way to our roads. As such, being endorsed as the company's preferred charging station supplier was always likely to offer a huge boost to whichever company was selected.

Well now that charging supplier and preferred installation partner has been picked: AeroVironment, Inc.

The company, which has already deployed more than 11,000 charging stations across North America, will now provide a 240V charger with professional installation for Ford's plug-in customers. It will also offer a web-based ordering option for home charging and purchasing a charging station.

It's easy to see why the charging supplier has been selected too. AeroVironment's 240V home charger can recharge both the Fusion Energi and C-MAX Energi in as little as two and a half hours: providing 21miles of all-electric driving.

Meanwhile, the Ford Focus Electric can be charged in less than four hours for a 76mile all-electric range. This is a massive boost compared to a standard 120V outlet, which would take 18-20hours to give the car a complete charge.
