Toyota on track for Pikes Peak electric car record

Toyota already holds the electric car driving record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb: and now it is on track to shatter its own marker.

The Toyota EV P002 race car (pictured) will take part in the two-day session in Colorado later this month after impressing during official testing this weekend. The combined results from a half run course taken on each day of the weekend suggested that the vehicle is on track to beat its own record.

During testing, the vehicle was driven by Rob Millen, who is a multiple time record setter for Pikes Peak. A host of fine tuning was carried out on the vehicle including traction control, braking, balance, and tyre options.

Last year, the Toyota was able to set an electric vehicle record of 10minutes 15.380seconds. Since then, its speed and torque have both been increased thanks to aerodynamic and chassis upgrades.
