Honda pours cash into Earth Dreams technologies

Japanese carmaker Honda is placing a firm focus on its most efficient technologies going forward, after it announced a huge cash investment into one of its major North American plants.

The company will pour $215million into its operations in Ohio as it looks to add a new technical training centre and powertrain technologies.

One of the major focuses of the investment will be $180million that will go towards expanding the capabilities of the Honda Anna engine plant to assist capabilities in both engine parts production and aluminium die casting. This will relate to the production of the company's engines and transmissions relating to its Earth Dream technologies.

The company has already made major investments in the area that have helped with the production of more efficient technologies: including both direct injection engines and continuously variable transmissions.

In addition, Honda will establish a new training centre meant to equip service technicians and associates with the chance to develop their technological know-how.

This investment is in addition to a new 160,000sq ft development alongside its existing operations in Marysville which is expected to open in autumn 2014.
