According to Rupert Stadler, the chairman of the board of management for Audi, the company had the goal of achieving 1.5million deliveries a year by 2015: but this was achieved comfortably in 2013. Now it wants to develop new goals with fresh investments and a host of new employees.

Its new target is to achieve two million deliveries a year: and expand its product range in the process from 49 models to 60 models by 2020. The investment programme will also provide the money for a host of fuel efficient engines as the company aims to meet strict emission regulation.

There is a firm green car focus to the investment too. Audi will introduce both the Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron plug-in hybrid as well as the Audi A3 Sportback Natural Gas E-Tron during this period.

According to Audi, more than half of the investments will go to German production sites. However, there will also be an expansion overseas in the Mexican city of San Jose Chiapa. It will also begin producing again in Brazil from 2015 onwards.
