Being greener doesn’t need to be expensive - Citroen UK

June 18, 2008 Posted by: Lee Sibbald

Citroen C1Everyone’s talking about green technology. This is great, as long as it’s affordable. Citroen currently have 24 cars with 120g/km CO2 or less and were voted ‘Best Green Manufacturer’ 2008 by What Diesel magazine. It doesn’t have to cost the earth to save the planet… here are seven green tips to make a little go a long way.

  • Unplug your mobile phone charger
  • Hang clothes instead of tumble drying
  • Drink tap water not bottled water
  • Drive a low CO2 car
  • Switch of the standby on your TV
  • Ride a bike on short journeys
  • Switch to energy efficient light bulbs

These tips for a greener life extend to tips for a greener drive. As you extend your mpg, you’ll realise that helping the planet can also help your pocket.

  • Nice Rack - Take your roof rack off when you are not using it as this increases drag on the outside of your car and increases the amount of fuel you use.
  • Sustain to Gain - Choose one of Citroen’s award winning economical models, GreenFleet ‘Car Manufacturer of the year 2008′ & What Diesel magazine’s ‘Best Green Manufacturer 2008′.
  • Be smooth - Fast acceleration and heavy braking use more fuel.
  • Air raiser - Under-inflated tyres waste fuel, adding as much as 2% to your fuel bill.

Citroen would like to help to reduce the impact that their range has on the environment. If every car sold in the UK was a Citroen C1 Hdi, CO2 emissions would be reduced by a third. Here are four models to choose from…

AIRDREAM

To highlight their commitment to the environment and demonstrate their technological expertise in this area, Citroen have developed the AIRDREAM signature for the cleanest vehicles in their range.

AIRDREAM reflects Citroen’s efforts to contribute actively to air quality and a clean environment by cutting the pollutant emissions from our vehicles.

To qualify for the AIRDREAM signature, vehicles must meet the criteria below:

  1. CO2 emissions = 130g/km for vehicles running on fossil fuels.
  2. Be manufactured in a plant that is ISO 14001 certified.
  3. Be designed to be 95% recoverable (recycling and energy recovery) by weight at end-of-life.

Just like the environment itself, the AIRDREAM philosophy is organic and grows with the way that Citroen continues to consider their effect on the planet. http://www.citroen.co.uk/environment/introduction/
