Contrary to Mr. Sibbald's comment that "hydrogen is the most common element in the atmosphere", it is not. Even combined as water vapour, it is not, nitrogen is. The crux of the matter lies in the production of hydrogen. It must be carbon free. This rules out the indirect use of any fossil fuel. This leaves the use of very dilute and inefficient renewables, or nuclear. Here with the latter is the possibility of the high temperature pebble bed reactor combined with the use of the Bunsen Reaction. This produces clean hydrogen without any appreciable carbon footprint. Both the reactor and the reaction are to found on the web.

Hi...

Just to let you know the post you responded to written by my colleague Faye Sunderland was actually posted on the site back in May as the date at the top indicates.

I thoroughly agree with your comments, however. LPG and hydrogen fuel could be the future for transport in this country and it seems that the UK and the US (California aside) are a long way from truly embracing this technology.

If you'd like to read more recent posts about hydrogen fuel and news within the sector click on our 'latest news' button at the top of the screen. Or alternatively, click 'hydrogen fuel' on the bar on the left-hand column.

Thanks for your comment,

this site needs to be updated, just as Honda are leasing cars in California Renault are leasing Scenics in Isreal. This country needs to wake up and catch up if we want a share in this technology. How much influence is being used by the Oil barons to hold this back I'm unsure but our Government need to promote this for our industrial future. The same goes for LPG, it is still mostly ignored by the public yet in cost alone it should be delivered at every petrol station in the country and Government should make it law that car companies sell cars that can use both without charging a premium. California leads the way by making car makers sit up,listen and then act if they want to sell there. We should do the same.
