Reducing emissions

The challenge of designing and engineering cleaner vehicles
Nissan has always designed and manufactured its products with adherence to strict voluntary regulations and targets, and a view to the future. Early on, we began to develop and popularize vehicles that had cleaner emissions. By May 2006, 80% of all new Nissan vehicles sold in Japan were certified as super ultra-low emission vehicles (SU-LEVs). The estimated effect of this on reducing exhaust emissions is virtually the same as if 40% of the vehicles we sold had been EVs and other types of clean vehicles. Nissan continues to make improvements that will reduce exhaust emissions substances to levels that meet or exceed all local ambient air standards and regulations in the coming years.
