We’ve always been keen on green schemes here in the UK, looking to save money wherever we can - but now the ideas are catching on all around the world.
The latest example is in Israel, where new Israeli company Car2go has followed the classic Israeli collective community of kibbutz, where members share everything, by introducing an urban car sharing service.

The slowdown in the economy brought about by the credit crunch has forced many Western carmakers to look towards emerging markets for growth. Now however, the role has been reversed with one Chinese car manufacturer looking west - and making green cars its focus.

Further proof of the increasing demand for green cars has been emphasised by another leading car manufacturer joining the environmental race - with Nissan announcing plans to sell an electric car by 2010.
The commitment - expected to be confirmed on Tuesday - will see Nissan become the first major manufacturer to provide a zero-emission vehicle to the American market. Nissan is also expected to announce a line-up of electric cars to be released worldwide by 2012.

There’s a new frontrunner in the race to produce green cars with Israel emerging as the latest environmental hotspot.
In a project led by Shai Agassi, an Israeli entrepreneur, a joint venture has been established between Renault-Nissan and Project Better Place, a new Silicon Valley company, which will introduce a fully electric prototype of the Renault Sedan on to Israel’s streets by 2010.

Renault and Nissan have struck a deal to produce the world’s first ever mass-production vehicle. We reported recently on the Israeli Government’s plans to introduce green cars by 2011. The estimated sales figures in Israel are 20,000 units a year with an urban range of 60 miles and a motorway range of 100 miles.

JERUSALEM - Israel’s government on Monday endorsed the ambitious plan of a private entrepreneur to install the world’s first electric car network here by 2011, with half a million recharging stations to crisscross the tiny country.
