Tazzari ZERO

The Tazzari ZERO was a newcomer to the UK market in 2009. Retailed in the UK by EV Stores, the new ZERO is manufactured by Italian firm, the Tazzari Group. The Group is made up of several co-operating firms which function primarily in two sectors: engineering and casting. The ZERO is a two-seater with more than 160 litres of boot space, designed to offer greater performance and drive time than some of the first-generation electric vehicles to hit the roads.

The History of the Tazzari ZERO

The ZERO made its debut in the Bologna International Motor Show in December 2009 and went on sale in the UK immediately afterwards. Retailed by the Mayfair-based EV Stores, the ZERO promised a new level of performance and quality among small electric vehicles.

Environmental Credentials of the Tazzari ZERO

Tazzari says its little electric car offering is unlike any other available on the market. Designed to be a ‘minature sports car’, the ZERO has four drive modes; ‘Race’: for a track feel, ‘Rain’: for when the road is wet, ‘Standard’: for daily use and ‘Economy’: for increased driving time/range.

Very ecological, the ZERO is made from 100 per cent recyclable and very light aluminium along with many of the internal and external parts and the seats are covered ‘eco-leather’. In ‘Economy’ drive the Zero can cover up to 88 miles on a single charge. A top speed of 55 mph with an 0-30 mph acceleration in less than 5 seconds, the ZERO generates a maximum torque of 150 Nm.

Its long-life lithium-ion batteries can be recharged in 6.5-9 hours using a standard household electric charge or can be charged up to 80 per cent capacity in 50 mins using a 3-phase power supply. Running costs are kept low, it can travel up to 65km on less than £1 of electricity and it requires very little maintenance.

Tazzari ZERO statistics

Here are some crucial statistics about the Tazzari Zero:

• Charge time: nine hours (standard charge).
• CO2 emissions: None.
• Engine: Lithium-ion batteries
• Range: 88 miles.
• Top speed: 55mph.
• Transmission: Automatic.

Future of the Tazzari ZERO

The year 2010 will be the first full year that the ZERO has been on sale in the UK. No new models have yet been announced from Tazzari, presumably they will hope to see strong results from the ZERO first.
